If prospective students of medicine were fully aware of the scope, depth, and detail of knowledge that faculties judge to be the irreducible core from which intelligent practice can grow, most of them would probably turn to TV repairing for careers. Fortunately generations of students have found out, once in medical school, that the core is much skinnier than the faculty represents it to be.
