To the editor: The UCLA Interdepartmental Conference on trends in clinical neuroendocrinology (Ann Intern Med, November 1970) was of great interest to me, particularly with regard to the endocrine investigation of such patients. Many of the endocrine tests suggested in the conference report, especially those employing administration or measurement of releasing factors, are currently available, if at all, on a very limited basis, as noted in the footnotes to Table 2. Furthermore, it is important to stress that hypothalamic disease may be associated with some abnormalities in laboratory indices of endocrine function without any clinical evidence of endocrinopathy being present.
