Eighty-five patients who received renal allografts from sibling, parental, and cadaver donors over an 18-month period and who were followed for 8 to 26 months were evaluated for mortality, morbidity, graft loss, and length of hospitalization. Their clinical courses were correlated with the degree of matching for 10 HL-A specificities and the net histocompatibility ratio.
The survival rate for patients was 93% and for grafts, 75%. The survival rate of kidneys from sibling donors was 85%; parental donors, 86%; and cadaver donors, 62%. For C or better matches, however, the graft survival rate was 95% for sibling, 92% for parental,
