A symposium on the pericardium was held at Temple University in November 1967, and this useful monograph is composed of the individual presentations. I hope that it was well attended, since this important subject is frequently overlooked. It is pleasing to me to note that the first chapter considers the historical aspects; too frequently young physicians do not realize that much advance in knowledge can and has been made by those without modern instrumentation.
The editor has obviously made a valiant effort to avoid the usual result of combining essays from many authors in a single volume. He has separated
