For over 40 years Dr. Russell has been active in the clinical investigation of head injuries, many of which demonstrate traumatic amnesia as their prominent clinical sign. This work presents extended excerpts from his important papers with recent comments, as well as summaries of subsequent work by other investigators. A clear picture of the evolution of his own ideas is given, and the whole should prove valuable to those interested in the physiology of brain mechanisms and its disruption by trauma.
The prominent features of cerebral acceleration concussion are discussed; the acute impact, the recovery period, variability of clinical symptoms
