Chapters 1 and 2 on renal anatomy, embryology, and physiology from Nephrology, the two-volume text published by Saunders in 1968. A seven-page appendix by Grünfeld summarizes very briefly, perhaps too briefly, recent developments in micropuncture methods, control of sodium excretion, potassium and calcium transport, hormone effects, and the renin-angiotensin system. The index covers this appendix as well as the reprinted text.
The short monograph by Robert Pitts, Physiology of the Kidney and Body Fluids, is more expensive but should be preferred for its development of physiological topics. The Hamburger text covers some points of diagnostic unsefulness not taken up by
