To the editor: In the July issue (Ann Intern Med 75:136, 1971) I read with interest the letter by Drs. Orme and Conolly from Hammersmith Hospital. They called attention to a case of hypoparathyroidism after radioiodine treatment of thyrotoxicosis. I should like to call attention to an article by Dr. King, me, and our associates concerning this problem (Acta Endocrinol (Kbh) 58:565, 1968). We concluded that we could demonstrate poor parathyroid reserve in patients subjected to radioiodine therapy for thyrotoxicosis only when these patients developed the postradioiodine treatment complication of hypothyroidism.
