High concentrations of carbenicillin can decrease the antibacterial activity of gentamicin in vitro over a period of time. Experiments in dogs and humans with normal renal function show that serum levels of gentamicin are not lowered by concomitant therapy with carbenicillin if these antibiotics are not mixed and allowed to stand before their administration.
