Dr. Saul's direct, informal style reminds me of some of Dr. Will Menninger's writings. The style makes for easy reading, but there is repetitiveness and overlapping content. Because Dr. Saul explains that much of the text was developed from lecture notes, the anecdotal repetitiveness is understandable, but by the third edition the reader has a right to expect an editing out of these annoyances.
Dr. Saul is obviously not only a dynamic psychiatrist of experience but a socially concerned one; however, I found some of the sociological implications he discusses to be oversimplified. I doubt that further understanding of individual
