Although the existence of a salt-retaining hormone of the adrenal cortex had been suspected for many years, it was not until the classic experiments of Simpson and Tait in 1953 that it was adequately proved. In the 19 years since its original description a voluminous world literature has developed concerning the chemistry, biologic activity, physiologic regulation, and pathophysiologic significance of aldosterone. Drs. Gláz and Vecsei have performed a herculean task in amassing and critically reviewing the almost 4000 references from this world literature for their text.
The book is divided into two sections. The first, by Dr. Vecsei, concerns the
