Information on the nature and variety of immunodeficiency states has accumulated rapidly in recent years. There is now a significant need for a logical classification of these disorders and establishment of the most appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The recent memorandum from the World Health Organization Committee on Primary Immunodeficiencies (1) is an attempt to respond to these needs. Recognized authorities undertook the task of setting up criteria for the work-up, diagnosis, and therapy of patients with primary disorders of the immune system. That the conference was only partially successful in achieving these aims is less a criticism of the
