It has been the editor's long-standing goal to emphasize the interrelation between heredity and cancer to practicing physicians and the general public. This was indicated by his repeated publication of the M pedigree (Arch Intern Med 117:206-212, 1966; Gastroenterology 53:517-527, 1967; South Med J 61:265-269, 1968; and South Med J 64(suppl 1):26-40, 1971; and his recent book Cancer and You, Charles C Thomas, Publisher, Springfield, Ill., 1971). He has aimed this book at busy clinicians.
As in any multiauthored text, the success depends on the editor's ability to organize, develop a format, select authoritative authors and, finally, interrelate all chapters.
