To the editor: In a recent letter to the editor Dr. Robert F. Thompson described how he developed his own philosophy regarding the use of drugs during his years in practice in spite of what he was taught in medical school ("Too Much Use of Drugs," July 1972). Dr. Thompson wrote of the 50-year-old physician and of the 35-year-old physician, who finished medical school as late as 1962, and how each developed his own pattern of prescribing.
