As mentioned by Kety in Chapter 1, really an introduction, former fellows of Julius Axelrod ("call me Julie") met at a conference on neurotransmitters in Paris in January 1970 and planned for a reunion of Axelrod's former fellows and collaborators to honor Julie during the Federation meeting in 1971. The papers presented at this reunion were to be published as a Festschrift—an unusual move in our scientific culture since Julie was not at the age of retirement.
