Since knowledge in most areas of specialization is accumulating faster than any one individual can acquire and integrate, textbooks are increasingly being written by groups of experts. The editor then assumes the responsibility for providing a balance by his choice of contributors.
Dr. George A. Ulett's latest edition of his synopsis of contemporary psychiatry, which attempts to continue the tradition of the single-authored text, meets with varying success.
