To the editor: The report of the NIH Conference in the February 1973 issue (pp. 259-269) repeats, on p. 261, a fallacy regarding studies on associations between blood groups and disease that has been encouraged by the myths in the Race-Sanger book. Significantly, this book is the only reference source cited by the authors, even though scores of books are now available; see, for example, the excellent section on blood groups that can readily be found in the new edition of J. B. Miale's book, Laboratory Medicine-Hematology, 1972.
The fallacy in question, in its usual form, consists of determining the
