This symposium on the spontaneous hypertension of the rat is composed of 49 short papers. These cover the broad areas of development and heredity, catecholamine metabolism, neural factor and behavior, cardiovascular dynamics, cardiovascular pathology, endocrine factors, and renal factors and electrolytes and, finally, relate essential hypertension to the spontaneous hypertension of the rat. Because of the many authors involved, the style of writing varies greatly and is thus difficult to read. There are generally no attempts to summarize, especially in regard to various opinions.
