We read with great interest the article in your May 1973 issue, "Osteomyelitis in Hemodialysis Patients," by Leonard and colleagues (Ann Intern Med 78:651-658, 1973). Five patients with this uncommon complication of chronic hemodialysis are described. Despite the frequency of bacterial infections, especially staphylococcal, such a complication has not previously been reported in hemodialysis patients. This prompts us to describe briefly another case of osteomyelitis recently observed in our dialysis unit.
On 11 January 1973 a 42-year-old white man suffering from end-stage renal disease was admitted to our unit. After an emergency peritoneal dialysis, clinical study led to the diagnosis
