A multidisciplinary team of authors have contributed to this introductory text. Material on anatomy and physiology is well selected for clinical relevance. The subsequent sections on fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base disturbances lucidly detail diagnosis and management, with many useful guidelines tempered by appropriate admonitions to frequently reevaluate the patient's progress. Discussion of urinary tract and kidney disorders is less comprehensive, although key material on common conditions is provided. The final section, on clinical approach, includes interpretation of symptoms and laboratory data as well as brief description of diagnostic procedures. The only references are a list of textbooks in the preface.
