To the editor: The principal point of the recent article by Morrelli on propranolol (Ann Intern Med 78:913-917, 1973) is that the package insert is out of date. He appears to be concerned principally with new indications recommended in the literature but not included in this document. . . . I share Dr. Morrelli's opinion that the package insert does not reflect certain uses currently "unapproved."
Unfortunately, some of his statements are also a bit out of date. For example, he notes that "new drugs . . . are often introduced after only limited clinical trials. . . ." Surely
