Survival for 46 years and 15 editions attests to the extraordinary popularity of any textbook. This one, designed for the medical student who is beginning clinical work, seems to deserve its longevity. The original author and his successor have collected a great array of photographs and drawings that have been beautifully reproduced by the publisher and effectively complement the text. Undoubtedly, the expense of including so much visual material accounts for what otherwise would be considered an exorbitantly expensive book.
