The structure and physical properties of the red cell have received a great deal of attention recently with the advent of new methods for visualizing cells. This subject is examined extensively in this monograph prepared by participants in a conference held last year in France. The 16 contributors to this volume depict erythrocyte structure by electron scanning, holography, and freezeetching processes. Laser technology also is used, in a unique experiment designed, by Dr. Bull to explore the mystery of the dimple in the red cell.
