The use and method of pancreatic scanning are subject to widely divergent opinions among nuclear-medicine physicians. Proponents of pancreatic scanning consider it an excellent modality for evaluating the pancreas, whereas, on the other end of the spectrum, some consider it nearly useless. The truth probably lies somewhere between these two extremes. Drs. Prior and Valente have written what I consider a very worthwhile look at the positive view of pancreas scanning. The text has both good and bad features.
