Professor Mercier indicates that the purpose of this volume, and of a subsequent one not reviewed here, is to describe the "slow and patient advance" in the treatment of a patient with epilepsy. The volume begins with a subsection by Gastaut on clinical description and pathophysiology of epileptic seizures; in general, this adheres to the classification of epileptic seizures proposed by the International League Against Epilepsy.
