To the editor: I would like to make several comments in reference to the article, "Occurrence and Nature of Glomerular Lesions after Group A Streptococci Infections in Children," which appeared in the October issue (Ann Intern Med 79:492-499, 1973). It seems unwarranted to subject children to the risk and discomfort of a kidney biopsy for such indications as low serum CH50 levels and minor urinary abnormalities. Granted that the risk of this procedure is minimal in expert hands, I wonder how children view this procedure, especially children who are essentially asymptomatic.
