The prevalence of multiauthored medical texts has caused the average reader to believe that unevenness of quality and overlapping of material are necessary accompaniments of medical writing. It is indeed refreshing to read a single-authored text such as this in which these problems are avoided.
The author, a prime worker in the field of immediate hypersensitivity for 23 years, has attempted and, I believe, succeeded in providing a comprehensive coverage of all aspects of the type I immune response.
