To the editor: Having just taken the internal medicine "Boards," I agree with Dr. Matthew Cushing (Ann Intern Med 80:781, 1974) that the literature of internal medicine is indeed awesome in quantity and depth. As he points out, the College's recent syllabus is a helpful guide to many of the important recent advances in internal medicine.
I think the almost universal abstract or summary at the beginning of most journal articles is another aid to the physician trying to "keep up." In March 1974 the abstracts of all major articles in the Annals of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Medicine,
