Karselis has divided his text into three major sections: basic electricity and electronics (Chapters 1-16); clinical analytic instrumentation (Chapters 17-20); and medical electronics and bioengineering (Chapters 21-28). His purpose is to give a clear, logical presentation without recourse to formulas and mathematical analysis so that principles and concepts can be grasped by a wide range of students, such as nurses, medical technologists, physical therapists, and bioengineering technology students. For such a broad interdisciplinary subject, his book succeeds very well, although it would only suffice as an introductory text for bioengineering technology students because of the lack of in-depth mathematical theory.
