To the editor: Fialk and Murray reported in the October 1974 issue (Ann Intern Med 81:562, 1974) a case of a 28-year-old man with a story of having had a floppy mitral valve; this case was thought to be a cardiac example of the Munchausen syndrome.
On 3 August 1973 a 27-year-old man came to the emergency room of our hospital, and was subsequently hospitalized, with chest pain and a story similar to that mentioned in the letter by Fialk and Murray. We believe that both patients are the same man. Medical records were obtained from Deborah Hospital in Browns
