The author's preface describes his self-instruction text, not as a substitute for more detailed textbooks in pharmacology, but as containing the bare minimum of what a student in medicine, dentistry or pharmacy should know about the pharmacology of the central nervous system. In attempting to reduce neuropharmacology to the core level, the author has written a text that contains less than the fund of knowledge familiar to the practitioner who routinely uses drugs active on the central or peripheral nervous system.
