Hyperalimentation using central vein catheters is an important advance in the management of a variety of post-surgical patients and those with gastrointestinal disease. Because these patients are characteristically acutely ill, they must frequently be cared for in small hospitals rather than moved to large consultation centers. Since these severe nutritional problems are relatively uncommon in any one small hospital, detailed discussion of methods and complications should make a very useful and popular book. This book presents such detail in word and picture. It is detail easily taught by example at the bedside, but difficult to describe with the same effectiveness
