A handbook functions as a convenient reference source, compact in format, for a particular subject. This book fulfills in most ways these basic requisites as a ready and portable source of pertinent information on psychiatry for the medical student, resident, and medical practitioner. Since the first edition appeared in 1969, the volume has been subsequently revised and expanded as the editors and multiple authors have reevaluated the subject and incorporated new developments in psychiatry.
