This multiple-author monograph on several modalities of the treatment of breast cancer is a timely publication. The many differing current concepts on the surgical management of breast cancer are well covered by the first two chapters. However, the authors wisely skirt the issue of the preference of the more radical surgical procedures or the less radical procedures; it is recommended that the general surgeon, not involved in clinical trials, continue to employ the conservative radical mastectomy.
