To the editor: In the recent article spotlighting antacids and anticholinergic drugs (Ann Intern Med 82:544-551, 1975) the authors call attention to the comparative invitro neutralizing capacity of the commonly used aluminumand magnesium-containing liquid antacids. In this same comparison, the authors point out the sodium concentrations of each antacid. This was done to reaffirm the risk of sodium overload, as recognized by Rimer and Frankland (1) when large doses of antacid preparations are used.
Maalox® is represented by the authors to contain 34.7 mg (1.5 meq) of sodium per each 31 ml. The authors may have been unaware that Maalox
