The author's assumption that the essential needs of a medical microbiologist in the tropical "underdeveloped countries" where infections and communicable diseases are still the major problem, as compared to the temperate-climate "developed countries" where altogether different conditions exist fully justifies bringing out this book.
One of the rapidly expanding specialties today is medical microbiology, and a textbook meant for a young physician should concentrate on factual aspects relevant to infectious agents, and on the diagnostic laboratory methods, but without being burdened with too many technical details.
