Since its publication nearly 10 years ago, the first edition of Man's Haemoglobins has enjoyed modest popularity as a broad, general coverage treatise on hemoglobin with all its ramifications. Lacking references and containing much anecdotal material, the book was of only limited usefulness to persons involved with hemoglobin research. In view of the tremendous advances that have been made in hemoglobin research since the first edition appeared and in view of the authors' reputations in the field, it seemed reasonable to expect that the second edition would be extensively rewritten and improved over the first.
