A major change in this edition is the deletion of the entire chapter on biomedical amplifiers. Instead, the authors choose to emphasize descriptions of biophysical transducers and electrodes, impedance measurements, and bioelectric events. Nine chapters are devoted to transducer types and electrodes, for example, resistive, piezoelectric, and chemical. A new chapter on semiconductor transducers replaces the chapter on the obsolete mechanoelectronic transducer tubes. Extensive research into the history and development of these devices results in a large bibliography at the end of each chapter.
