The authors intended this book to be a small, readable, and profusely illustrated paperback on the normal and pathologic physiology of blood cells and their supporting plasma components. It is an expanded and updated version of their chapter, "Pathophysiology of Hematologic Disorders" in the textbook, Pathologic Physiology—Mechanics of Disease, edited by William A. Sodeman, Jr., and William A. Sodeman, Sr., and published by W. B. Saunders Company in 1974.
Their book is, indeed, eminently readable, concise, up-to-date, and factual. Almost every page has a photomicrograph, illustration, or table, (145 figures and 29 tables in 175 pages of text excluding the
