Having heard Dr. Sehnert's lecture about patient education and his "Course for the Activated Patient," I looked forward to the book he mentioned then that he was writing. My initial reaction on reading it was so negative that I re-read it. My reaction still stands; this is not a book I would recommend to my patients. There is not much damaging in Sehnert's overall message (except possibly as a colleague's representation of physicians as a class), but neither is there a great deal that is really useful or lives up to the grand promise of his title.
