Doctor Pickering's small book offers a valuable introduction to the study of hypertension suitable for students in all health professions. Those readers not familiar with Dr. Pickering's engrossing prose in the exposition of his concepts of hypertension will, I hope, be enticed to read his larger, now-classic volumes on high blood pressure. This smaller version retains much of the succinctness of the larger works. The brief review of physiology and epidemiology lays the background for the concise section on consequences, which, with clear pictures and tables, presents the argument for treatment.
