Twenty-five years is a ridiculously small time span under the mirror of eternity, but it is still quite a long time in the history of a medical journal. So perhaps the South African Medical Journal is justified in making something of its 25th Jubilee and publishing a special issue with a selection of outstanding articles that have appeared in its pages (S Afr Med J 6 March 1976).
National medical journals have both a local and a global responsibility, as Dr. Swinscow points out in an editorial. Some of the articles reprinted are primarily of local interest, such as the
