To the editor: The report by Van Thiel and associates (1) is an excellent example of a thorough family study, and adds the syndrome of selective immunoglobulin A deficiency with malabsorption and diabetes mellitus to the list of disorders associated with the histocompatibility antigens, HLA-B8 and DW3. The authors list glutensensitive enteropathy, chronic active hepatitis, and the autoimmune endocrine disorders of diabetes mellitus, Grave's disease, and idiopathic Addison's disease as other conditions associated with these HLA antigens.
