Continuing advances and new techniques in mitral valve surgery, as well as the recognition of "new diseases," including mitral prolapse and hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, have rekindled a vigorous interest in mitral valve disease. The results of research activity in this area have been scattered, however, through the scientific literature.
