To the editor: Reading Dr. Allegra's and colleagues' comments in "Munchausen as Physician and Patient" (Ann Intern Med 85:262-263 1976) I recall vividly a female physician impersonator who, when I was a student of medicine in Berlin, fooled even persons of such capacity as the venerable Prof. Karl Bonhoeffer. However, Bonhoeffer, normally somewhat haughty and stern, had enough sense of humor to present the "Doctor" on grand rounds after he discovered her true background.
The middle-aged woman applied for a staff position at Bonhoeffer's University hospital, showing considerable knowledge of psychiatry. She had told him in an interview that she
