Emphysema of the lungs consists in an alteration of parts which can be described in a few words; while in studying Asthma we shall require to write a volume on generalities before we can arrive at anything positive. —Laennec
Weiss and Segal have recruited 107 authors to try to set down in one volume current information and opinions about the pathogenesis, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of asthma. They draw upon virtually every discipline of biomedical science, from molecular biology to psychotherapeutic modalities. Not surprisingly, this approach has produced a volume that resembles an encyclopedia more than it does a textbook.
