How frustrated authors must feel! This excellent British text combines high-caliber discussion with pertinent literature review, yet two years pass between publication and its availability in America. Newer information accrues; an addendum is added; still current data are missing, especially on the treatment of retinopathy and nephropathy.
Although Eva Kohner's beautifully illustrated chapter on diabetic retinopathy lacks recent therapeutic results with photocoagulation or vitrectomy, her dissertation on the nature of diabetic retinopathy, its classification, and description is elegantly presented and definitive. American physicians probably express less interest in pituitary ablation than she espouses.
