The first part of the title is rather misleading; the book deals not with fundamentals of epidemiology but with the need for its application to planning and administrative problems. It is a report of a conference with 22 contributors of papers and formal discussions, and numerous other participants from eight countries. Like most conference reports, this is somewhat uneven and repetitive, but has a strong theme with which no participant seems to have disagreed—namely, the need for epidemiologic input in the fields listed in the title. White makes an aggressive demand for this. Unfortunately, such input is limited by the
