Increasing attention is being directed to cardiopulmonary problems, such as hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, and asthma, that may start in childhood and persist into adult life. Dr. R.S. Jones of Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, reviews in this excellent monograph the epidemiology, cause and management of childhood asthma. This is a scholarly and systematic approach to a disorder said to affect from 2 to 3% of American children and to account for 11% of childhood chronic disease in both this country and the United Kingdom.
