A special workshop on slow virus infections held at the University of Wurzburg in 1975. Included most of the outstanding workers in the field as well as outstanding scientists from other areas of biologic research. The obvious aim of the meeting and the resultant text was to provide an updated insight into the cause and pathogenesis of these diseases, with a view to stimulating new initiatives in research.
Scrapie and the transmissable encephalopathies of man are reviewed in detail in the first two chapters. Not only are the properties of the scrapie agent discussed but a hypothesis is advanced implicating
