A lively monographic account of local and state medical history in one of the more important sections, medically speaking, of the "interior valley of North America." A felicitous byproduct of the Bicentennial, the book provides an even-handed assessment—necessarily rather brief—of the frontier background, medical education, practice, publications and societies, public health and the impact of regionalism on Kentucky medicine. Although there is no index, a useful bibliographic guide to further reading is appended.
